Bringing the community to life

Temporary voice channels

One channel to join, and everyone gets their own room, which disappears as soon as the last person leaves it.

The basic principle

You create a voice channel that serves only as a trigger, it is often called “Create channel” or “➕ Join”. Anyone who joins it is moved immediately into a new channel of their own. When the last person leaves that channel, the bot deletes it again.

The benefit shows on servers that would otherwise have to choose between two evils: either twenty empty voice channels just in case, or constantly too few.

Setup

The control panel

Whoever creates a channel is its owner and gets a control panel with buttons. It lets them manage their own room without a moderator having to step in:

  • Rename, your own name instead of the template.
  • Limit the size, maximum number of participants.
  • Lock, nobody else can join.
  • Hide, the channel is no longer visible to others.
  • Invite or throw out individual people.
  • Transfer ownership, handy when the creator leaves earlier than the rest.

Which buttons appear and how they are labelled is set in the dashboard. Not every server needs all of them.

Permissions

The bot needs Manage Channels and Move Members. Without the second permission a channel is created, but nobody ends up in it, a confusing state that is easily mistaken for a fault.

The cards are free of charge here

Image cards are otherwise a Premium feature. With the voice channels it is different: the cards of the control panel are free for everyone. Only customizing the look · your own background image, your own font · remains reserved for subscribers.

Common pitfalls

  • No channel is created. Check “Manage Channels” and whether the target category still has room, Discord allows 50 channels per category.
  • The channel is created, but nobody is moved. The bot is missing “Move Members”.
  • Old channels stay around. The bot cleans up on restart. If one is still left over, there is usually somebody still in it, being muted also counts as present.
  • The control panel does not react. It belongs to the owner of the channel. Anyone who has merely joined the channel cannot operate it as long as ownership has not been handed over to them.
